How to care for your skin in the summer

How to care for your skin in the summer

Goodbye spring, and hello summer!

During this hot summer weather, it’s more important than ever to make sure your skin gets the TLC it needs to stay looking its best. We are back to give you some tips on how to do that this season!

In the summertime, our skin is exposed to intense UV rays, humidity, and dry air that can leave our complexion looking dull. The heat strips the moisture from our skin and increases oil production through sweating. This contributes to dehydrated skin and clogged pores, which is a recipe for disaster (breakouts)!

Here's what you can do to keep your skin happy and healthy in the summer:
  1. Gently Exfoliate

Exfoliating is a vital step in your skincare routine. It helps remove dead skin buildup, facilitates skin turnover, and unclogs your pores to prevent blemishes. This is especially helpful after working up a sweat on a long, sweltering day. But be careful not to overdo it! Over-exfoliation will aggravate the skin and strip away its natural barrier.

Tip: Exfoliate your skin 1-2 times per week

  1. Keep Your Skin Hydrated

It’s really important to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized in the summer months! Ditch your heavy moisturizer, and go for something more lightweight like a gel based cream. Moisturizers are essential part of your summer skincare routine, they contain occlusives to form a protective barrier for your skin, humectants to draw moisture into the outer layers of your skin, and emollients to soften the skin.

Tip: Look out for hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin next time you’re shopping for new skincare products.

  1. Remove Impurities

Your skin produces excess sweat, sebum, and oils in the summer that can cause your pores to expand and appear enlarged. You can minimize and bring out toxins from your pores with a clay-based mask. They work by drawing out excess sebum to reduce oil in the skin.

Tip: Use a clay mask 1-2 times per week

  1. Apply Facial Oils

Facial oils are a superb addition to your everyday routine! They are emollients and occlusives, to help to nourish and protect the skin to minimize water loss. And besides that, they provide a variety of nutrients that are great for your skin!
